I know Peter Carey personally.......He has a very successful legal business, is a keen investor, lives in a beautiful home in Santa Monica by the beach, cycles regularly, lifts weights, hikes in the Malibu hills, drives a luxury convertible sports car, spends a LOT of time with his wife, travels to a luxurious location on 'vacation' or for a 'seminar' every week and doesn't seem to ever work (although he assures me he does work a few hours per week)! In addition to that I have found him to always be modest, generous, polite and helpful in every sense. He talks the talk, walks the walk and lives the dream.
This book is Peter's guidebook on how you too can escape the rat race of running a business, make more money and finally have the time you deserve to live your life fully!

"Be careful - it will take over your life." I have never forgotten someone saying this to me just before I started my own business, and her words were prescient indeed! Peter Carey's book shines a light on all the ways in which hard work can lead you directly away from business success, such as through spending too much time working 'in' rather than 'on' your business, thinking like an employee, being reactive and trying to 'do' it all. I can relate to all of these activities, but no more! Reading this inspiring book led to a huge a-ha moment about how I can restructure my business model - something I've been struggling with for some time. His book also sets out in detail each step needed to walk the entrepreneurial path to freedom and success, such as by knowing which tasks to delegate and how, by re-evaluating your relationship with money, getting help (for example from electronic solutions, business partners or employees), and by having the holy grail of a successful business written business procedures. But Peter's book goes beyond this to discuss the qualities that make a successful leader and delegator such as effective listening, being congruent, embracing mistakes and being uncomfortable with uncertainty.
If you are just starting out on your entrepreneurial journey, or are some way down the road and are struggling with overwhelm and overwork, then STOP! Read this book before you go any further because, as Peter explains and knows from personal experience, hard work ultimately leads to burnout and business failure. I have read a number of such books which often disappoint and are simply a façade for yet another get-rich-quick scheme from authors who are not yet living the dream themselves.
I came across this book after a personal recommendation and it did not disappoint - the content is surprisingly fresh, easy to follow and yet with a lot of depth and easy to follow practical ideas.
I can highly recommend Peter’s guidebook to creating a business with a solid foundation without working so hard. Remember that it’s simple but not easy - at least with Peter’s guidance, you can now have a lot of fun being an entrepreneur.

Extraordinary find. As a growing entrepreneur, Peter Carey's guiding words are changing the way I think about my business. I am now, more than ever, focused on my passion for my work and what I may offer others through this passion. Follow Peter's example, he knows the way.
I've been in business a number of times and managed only to make enough to keep a roof over my head. In other words, I was employing myself as opposed to being truly entrepreneurial. Peter's book has helped me make this distinction. I've recently been presented with an opportunity to be in business again only this time with a partner. My approach now is more business savvy thanks to Peter's mistakes and his willingness to share the knowledge he gained from those mistake. An essential read if you anticipate starting a business, or if you already running one.
I have owned my business for nearly twenty years and am guilty of being the controlling, perfectionist. entrepreneur that thinks that I "must" do everything myself in order for it to get done right! For years, I was working "in" my business rather than "on" my business. It wasn't until two years ago that I knew something was wrong. I was stretched too thin, working all hours of the day, and still couldn't get all my work done. My health was declining and I had no energy to do the things I enjoyed in life. But I couldn't figure out how to fix my problem.
The heaven's doors opened after I read Peter Carey's book! I didn't realize how simple it was to gain my freedom back while still running a successful business. He uses simple, yet practical techniques that are easy to implement and walks you through every step to get you to your new found freedom. Be ware though, once you pick up the book, you will not be able to put it down, and it gets better and better as you move through the chapters. I also enjoyed how the book had subtle spiritual elements to it that felt like little hidden gems, especially towards the end of the book.
